Description:
From the home of the PAN AM flying boats, to the modern Port of Miami, each community has contributed to the growth of Greater Miami. Either separately or together, the residents developed Greater Miami into the Gateway of Central and South America.
This tour begins with a visit to Little Havana, to discover how 40,000 Cuban immigrants built a "city within a city". The tour continues to Coral Gables, the "dream city" of George Merrick. Then, we'll look at Coconut Grove, homeland of the Bahamian immigrants. We will pass by City Hall, the Financial District, and Bayside Marketplace, a popular gathering area for cruise passengers. The second half of the tour includes a brief history of the area, plus an overview of the architecture of the Art Deco District of Miami Beach. We will drive along the international cafes of Ocean Drive, and the shops of Collins Avenue. See the "Versace Mansion" (Casa Casurina) and if time permits, a stroll along Ocean Drive or Lincoln Road.
