Palm Beach Historic Tour
Flagler Museum & the Breakers Hotel
Henry Morrison Flagler
Price
Starting at $695
Duration
7 Hours
Description
This tour explores the historic contribution made by Henry Morrison Flagler. Hear about his life, as we drive to the house he had built for his wife, Mary Lily Kenan-Flagler, which he called “Whitehall”. It has been proclaimed by the New York Herald as “more wonderful than any palace in Europe, grander and more magnificent than any other private dwelling in the world”. Today is known as the “Flagler Museum”. Choose the optional audio tour, and explore the estate, upstairs and downstairs, and stroll the beautiful grounds, and step inside Flagler’s personal railroad car.
Next, you will be guided through the famous Breakers Hotel. Originally the site of Flagler’s “Palm Beach Inn”, the overflow hotel was often requested where guests could watch “the breakers” of the ocean. After two major fires, the hotel was rebuilt and opened in 1926, with “fireproof concrete”.
While on the property, you may select to visit the oceanfront “Seafood Bar”, located inside the hotel. It has been refurbished to resemble the interior of a large super-yacht! The bar-top is clear, to reveal the aquarium built within it, and the huge windows allow a spectacular view of the ocean, as gulls and pelicans patrol outside.
After your lunch, use what time is left for a stroll along Worth Avenue.
